The off-duty officer, who is a member of the New York City Police Department, was shot in the arm in an incident that happened in Yonkers on Tuesday, Nov. 14 around 11:30 a.m., according to Yonkers Police Detective Sergeant Frank DiDomizio.
The shooting occurred in the area of the Saw Mill River Parkway and Tompkins Avenue near the border with Hastings-on-Hudson, which was soon cordoned off by responding officers. At the same time, police also met with the victim, who was found at a local hospital in stable condition.
Authorities determined that a suspect fired several gunshots at the off-duty officer while he was sitting in his vehicle and then fled the scene. No other injuries or damage to property have been reported in connection with the shooting, DiDomizio said.
The shooting appears to be a targeted attack and there is no risk to the public. The off-duty officer's name was not released, and a suspect has not been arrested in connection to the shooting, according to DiDomizio. However, police are currently talking to a person of interest.
Detectives from the Yonkers Police Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit are continuing to investigate the shooting.
